Then came the rappers. MC Master Jay was one of the first street credible rappers to hit the scene in 1979! For 5 years he had peeps amazed up and down the East Coast! Then in 1985 he became DJ Grandmaster Jay and emerged as the creator of the first real mix tape! Again Hip Hop was amazed! Jay was powerful on the turntables and the mic! Thus the term DJMC was bestowed upon him. As record labels tried to sign him they realized that GMJ was no idiot and far ahead of his time! Since then he has impacted Hip Hop in so many ways it would take years to tell it all. Just know this: There is not a rapper alive today or a deejay doing his thing that does not display some part of what Grandmaster Jay introduced to the world. He sounds like nobody else. He hosted The Original Fresh Fest Tour (1985), The Russell Simmons Def College Tour (1995), toured with DJ Kool (1996), with Funkmaster Flex's Big Dawg Pitbulls and was tour dj for R&B singer Yvette Michele (1997/1998). He won the KISS Mastermix Championship two years in a row (1984/85) and introduced the world to the first true mixtape.
